Some of the great features in Ubuntu 9.04 include: ext4 support, new login screen, faster boot-time and updated versions of software.

NOTE: Install this version of Ubuntu only on your Personal Computer. Because it is still in Alpha you might experience some bugs.

To upgrade your existing installation simply press Alt+F2 and type "update-manager -d" (of course, without the quotes). A window will pop out telling you a new release is available. Press upgrade and wait.

  1. Is the final release date in October? There will be a beta phase, I'm sure.

  3. Here's a question that edge-bleeders might want to know the answer to:

If I upgrade my existing installation to Jaunty Alpha 6, will it continue to update itself as the beta and eventually the regular release arrive?

In other words if I install Juanty Alpha 6 now, and I use the update manager regularly, will I be running the full regular release version of Jaunty by the time it's released, or would I have to reinstall or something to get the regular Jaunty release version?

    Thanks!

  5. admin has it right. I have this version of Ubuntu and it seems to work just fine. I get pretty much all the latest packages. I also have a ton of custom repo's which give me even more cool stuff.

  6. if the bugs or problems are a little overwhelming, is there a way to downgrade back to intrepid just as easily?

  8. For some reason Jaunty doesn't like my Printer. It's not an HP problem. It only works on Intrepid and XP. If intrepid works for you then keep it until Jaunty comes out. I hope they find a solution for my problems.

  9. I have the same problem as rv65, it seems "/dev/lp0" is missing and nothing I have tried can (re)create a working one. If anybody knows someone in the developers circle, please tell them to address this problem as i was quite comfortable with my Intrepid until i upgraded it, and I really don't want to reinstall.
