Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope released

Hello guys, I have great news for you! Today is April 23rd, which is the date the new version of Ubuntu is released. I will post here some link for you to download:

The desktop CD allows you to try Ubuntu without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This type of CD is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 256MB of RAM to install from this CD.

There are two images available, each for a different type of computer:

PC (Intel x86) desktop CD
For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors. Choose this if you are at all unsure.

64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop CD
Choose this to take full advantage of computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the Intel x86 images instead.

The version 9.04 includes a new notification system, GNOME 2.26 desktop environment, faster booting time and of course, many updates.

  1. Quick question: I downloaded and installed the 9.04 RC that you posted about a few days ago. Will it update to the the final release, or do I need to do a new install?

  2. To upgrade your existing installation simply press Alt+F2 and type "update-manager -d" (of course, without the quotes). A window will pop out telling you a new release is available. Press upgrade and wait.

  3. Hello,
If you already install the 9.04 RC, you don't need to do nothing to go in 9.04 final.
You simply accept the upgrade that Ubuntu will automatically propose...
    Easy ;-)
Perhaps you already have received all updates.

  4. My boyfriend woke me up this morning and asked me if I need what day this was. After going through a list of Earth day? Thursday? et cetera, I was told this answer by him: "it's the day the new ubuntu Jackalope is going to be released, and I'm in the process of downloading right now!" This from a man who barely remembers his family's birthday!
