I'm very sure there are guys out there that use Ubuntu for it's great open-source applications but don't really like the look and feel of Ubuntu. If you are new to the Ubuntu community this can be very frustrating.
While browsing the internet I came across this Ubuntu Theme. If you install it correctly it will make your Ubuntu installation look very much like a Windows 7 distro. The installation steps are written over there.
Now you can have a nice looking piece of operating system and the advantages of using an open-source application.
Before anyone says that a linux user should never install a theme which looks like Windows/Mac I want to say that it's the user's choice what theme they like and feel more familiar with. Remember that you also installed Ubuntu and maybe wanted a more great looking interface.
Looking for something else? Try Mac4Lin, it will make your Ubuntu look like a mac in no time!
Let me be honest: I don't like the Windows 7 GUI that much. - As on the iPhone you don't really see on the first look what applications are running and which not.
ReplyDeleteSame as with the Office ribbons - Not all modern UI is really good in the way of improving productivity.
I prefer the Ubuntu native look and feel...
no problem, I appreciate your sincerity
ReplyDeletewell, why would i like to make linux look like windows when i am using linux and not windows!
ReplyDeletemaybe you don't like it... but someone out there does.
ReplyDeleteFor example, someone whose computer is not powerful enoug for Windows 7 and lost his XP restoration CD and wants his desktop to look like Win7...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info.
ReplyDeletei use linux because i damn hate windows...so i hate windows theme
ReplyDeletehey...this is linux, you customize to anything you like. that is why i admire these kind of people ; they do what they want to do...linux has no rules.
ReplyDeletebyonic: Sorry, but that is senseless microsoft bashing. Their software might not always be what it's expected to be, but they definitely are good at building G.U.I.'s, it's not because you don't like windows that you have to hate EVERYTHING about it.
ReplyDeleteI love linux and don't mind windows but I have to admit I love the Windows 7 themes
ReplyDeleteThanks, really appreciate you sharing this.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree - Look and feel is User choice. the Win theme is is great for weaning people off MS OSs. About Ubuntu theme - its yet another theme that the Ubuntu folks felt is a good default theme!
ReplyDeleteI just want to be able to make Ubuntu look similar to Windows ao that switching my parents to Ubuntu won't be such a change for them.
ReplyDeleteLinux is great as a server. But, I have to admit that I hate its GUI: very bad design even with the latest version of Ubuntu-desktop 10.04. It drives me crazy because of its damn unreasonable, inconsistent/insensible design... Windows GUI is far more professional and easy to use indeed

the windows 7 theme isn't all that bad. an people who hate on windows CAN'T hate in Windows 7. Microsoft finally got it right! Since the release of Win7 i'm only on Linux out of preference, not because i can't stand to be on Windows.
ReplyDeleteThis is really great to get a windows 7 transformation pack. I am a great fan of these types of things to do on my computer and love to share it with others. I don't know that if I got a chance to share one of my greatest love Ubuntu's wallpaper for windows 7 with the users or if the moderator of this blog will let me do this but I am sure that everyone will love it. please let me share with the users. check the under given link to find a very impressive wallpaper of ubuntu for windows 7. check the under given link:

Actually, the look of win7 is about the only thing that I didn't dislike about that damn sluggish so-called OS Well, that and face recognition. It's definitely worth exploring - nobody says it *has* to be an exact clone of Aero, it's what makes GNU/Linux different; the fact that you can make (almost) everything to be the way you want it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, trying to make Win7 look like Ubuntu is just that little bit insulting the way I see it...
~~Gallifreyish freak(out)
really windows 7 interface is very bad
ReplyDeleteActually the use I will be putting to is a small PC for anyone who is visiting to use to check email and whatnot. Instead of explaining the Ubuntu interface and lots of questions (there would be with many of my older relatives) they will simply use and not realize.
ReplyDeleteInterface of windows 7 is not exactly so bad but what makes it bad is some inbuilt feel which users get while using win7 . Well, guys this is some thing interesting for all window7 lovers. Nice. This is the power of ubuntu. Yay
ReplyDeletelinux users could learn a thing or 2 from the enemy camp... how else can you beat them if you dont know them?!
ReplyDeletecn u tell d process to install this theme?? i m new here
ReplyDeleteI'm about to try this. I'm a windows user but every now and again I install Ubuntu as I'd like to be able to switch if the need arises. What I like about windows is that the GUI is what I'd call polished, where as I find that Ubuntu is functional, but not that appealing to the eye. I find the icons more cartoon like, if that makes sense. Whether this will be what I want is yet to be seen, but I'm sure a few other people out there must have the same thoughts as I do.
